WELCOME to galsham Farm

Unique holiday accomodation on a family run, sustainably managed farm on the coast in North Devon

ABOUT

Our Ethos

Galsham Farm is a retired dairy farm, which has been home to five generations of the family. Now the farm has retired from full-time production, our core aims as a low-input farm are to:

  • Improve biodiversity, native flora and fauna, soil quality and waterways

  • Restore and preserve the farm's heritage and historic buildings

  • Share the beautiful landscape through low-impact holiday escapes and access to walking routes.

This year we became partners of Farming in Protected Landscapes, due to our location in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Hartland Heritage Coastline and to support our commitment to farming alongside nature.

Sheppy hut

THE SHEPPY HUT

This unique Shepherds hut was hand-built by us here on the farm using local timber, recycled materials and restored furniture. The hut is fully off-grid - with electrics powered by wind and solar and logs available from our sustainably managed ancient woodland. Set in a quiet corner of the farm within a private meadow and views down to Spekes valley and the sea the Sheppy Hut is a perfect escape for two. Many of our guests enjoy letting their dogs run around and explore the secure paddock, and walking the green lanes down to the beach and coastal path.

Enjoy a low-impact stay with creature comforts:

- Fully equipped kitchen with fridge

- Indoor and outdoor cooking areas

- Flushing toilet and hot shower

- Indoor log burner and outdoor fire pit and BBQ

- Spacious interior with cooking, dining and snug areas beneath a mezzanine sleeping area.

- Private meadow location, secure for dogs to explore

"Amazing location, great getaway with beautiful views. If you enjoy Huts this is one of the better ones. Amazing for dogs, huge field boxed in with no need to worry. Hosts were exceptional 10/10.
Will be visiting again!" Nicholas, October 2023

"Brilliant design shepherds hut with a high standard of finish.
Everything you needed for a comfortable stay had been thought of.
Gutted my stay was cut short by a car issue, but will re visit to explore the area a bit more. 👍" Adele- October 2023

Was exactly what we expected and was everything it said it would be. Peaceful, great views and very private. Will definitely come back and stay longer it was that good." Kieran July 2023

"This place is unique and I am almost reluctant to praise it as highly as I should because I don’t want loads of folk to visit spoil it. That said, Richie and Laura deserve all the success possible. The hut is larger than anticipated, beautifully and thoughtfully appointed with a very comfortable bed. But it is the experience itself that is so special. The bathroom with loo is possibly in my top three ever have had the privilege to experience. The views, the ambiance, the peace and feeling of solitude are all the magic of the place. They have carved out a peace of heaven which we will now be visiting each year. Thank you for our stay." Leah- July 2023

"All 3 of us (including the dog) loved it! So peaceful and secluded with beautiful views and sunsets with views of the sea. Had no need to speak with the hosts during our stay because everything went very smoothly with easy to follow instructions for all amenities. Definitley recommended and I know we will be back!" Dai- April 2023

"An absolute gorgeous place to stay at, secluded in such a peaceful part of the country away from the noise of our usual city life. We appreciated the opportunity to get away for our anniversary with our dog, and I strongly feel that she did too. The views were gorgeous, with the sun setting over the sea in the distance.
The hosts have outdone themselves with not only their great service, but also their craftsmanship. The fact that this place was built by them is absolutely incredible. It was spacious, with plenty of utilities to use for self catering in the field. The attention to detail to make the place as environmentally friendly is something we both admired greatly.
Thank you for having us stay and we can't wait to come back in the future "😊 Amber- April 2023

"

Wow, this was one of best trips away we've had. The hut is beautifully done and has everything you need, and the location is perfect. Being so secluded makes all of the difference when you have a nervous dog like ours.
Richard was really helpful during our stay and we will definitely be back in future." Corrin- April 2023

“The hut feels so safe, cosy and warm (thanks to the wood burner) even in a huge Atlantic coat storm!"

"Richard and Laura have thought of everything, and the hut truly has everything you need for a comfortable stay. They are on hand for any help and advice you might need during your stay, and are so friendly and obliging."

"The hut is way bigger than it looks, and bed is super comfortable. It’s also ideal for dogs, as the hut itself is positioned in a large field, within its own fenced off garden. Our lurcher had the best time! Not to mention the amazing walks right on the doorstep - you can walk down beautiful green lane and rolling countryside to the coast path and Spekes mill waterfall. We also enjoyed walking to Hartland quay for a pint on the sea front. The coast is so rugged and dramatic" Harriet, October 2021

"A perfect destination to get away, be close to nature and unwind!"

"They’ve thought about everything to be eco conscious from the build of the Shepard’s hut to the cleaning products! It was a really comfortable stay. You feel like you’re completely on your own just to relax and unwind!"

"Within 30 minutes drive of Bude, some beautiful waterfalls within walking distance and great locations for cream tea and fish and chips!" Charley, September 2021
